Guilty Pleasure #3: Art Supplies!

I’m a nut for new drawing utensils, markers, pen, pencils, paint brushes I love them all. I’m a stickler for finding a good consistent brand that works well for me. I’ve recently acquired some new makers especially mad for lettering, I’m always weary of using markers for text work on art, but, this wonderful pack of Faber-Castell’s are probably the best thing to happen to me when it comes to text work. There light, thin, and don’ smudge or bleed like bigger markers. They come seven in a pack of bright colors. They can do thick and thin lines and are acid-free! So if your looking for good calligraphy marks pick these up! They run about $16. Not to bad for such great quality. Making this one of my new fave Guilty Pleasures.

Now as far as drawing pencils go I only use Derwent Graphic. They go from the lightest and hardest lead to the heaviest and softest. They’re prefect for shading and black and white sketch work. I think I paid about $11 for them at Blick art materials store.

Your Money’s Fancy Huh?

So apparently U.S. currency needs a make over, which is interesting since we’re still trying to figure out how to make over our economy and keep from slipping further in to recession, but I digress. Now as an artist I’m all for a great redesign project, nothing like taking a classic and “freaking it out” in to a new visual wonder. TheĀ  Dollar ReDe$ign Project does just that. Created by creative strategy consultant Richard Smith, this guy and a few others are brainstorming on new designs for the dollar bill. According to the DRP website, “Our great ‘rival’, the Euro, looks so spanky in comparison it seems the only clear way to revive this global recession is to rebrand and redesign.” As much as that statement rings true(the part about the Euro looking better at least) I can’t seem to see how colorful new money is going to help the economy, if anything it’s wasting more money at this point, and will only make our wallets look prettier… Provided we have money in our wallets :/ This might have to be reviewed a bit more, until then check out the pretty vertical money. Thought up by a few artistic women and men.
